The Sexual Assault Prevention Program is an educational awareness and outreach program run through Tri-County Mental Health and Counseling in Athens, Ohio.

We offer a variety of primary prevention activities targeted at middle school, high school and college students, as well as community members in Athens, Hocking and Vinton Counties.

 On Tuesday April 19th, in Baker 230 beginning at 7pm there will be an event designed to engage men during Take Back the Night Week.

Paint the Graffiti Wall

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 - 16:00 - 18:00

 Join Women Acting for Change at the Graffiti wall on Tuesday April 20th beginning at 4pm to paint the wall with messages for Take Back the Night Week.

Poetry Slam

 As part of Ohio University's Take Back the Night Week, there will be a poetry slam held in the 5th floor Atrium of Baker Center beginning at 8pm on Monday April 19th

Survivor Name Burning Ceremony

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 - 19:30

 As part of Ohio University's Take Back the Night Week, a survivor name burning ceremony will be held at the West Portico of Memorial Auditorium beginning at 7:30pm. As in the past, there will be counselors and resources available.

Take Back the Night Kickoff

 Ohio University kicks of its Take Back the Night week at the Front Room in Baker Center on Monday April 19th from 7-9pm. Join in the sign making and get information about the week's events. All are welcome

Distortion of College Sexual Assaults in Media Prompts Responses and Advocacy

Recently there was an opinion column in American University's student newspaper the Eagle which describes rape as an "incoherent concept", which has sparked many responses including one from Men Can Stop Rape and from an American University student run magazine, AWOL.

 

Fundraiser

Friday, April 9, 2010 - 11:00 - 16:00

 The Sexual Assault Prevention Student Group is holding a puppy chow fundraiser at the College Gate on Friday April 9th from 11am-4pm. Stop on by and help the group put on the great events it has planned this quarter like a Healthy Relationships Lock-in for Middle School students, movie screenings and bringing in Sarah Rice of MTV's Real World Brooklyn.

Women's Rights are Human Rights

Thursday, April 8, 2010 - 19:30 - 21:00

 Baker Peace Conference 2010 is hosting a talk at Templeton Blackburn Memorial Auditorium featuring Ayaan Hiris Ali, noted human rights activist and author of Infidel 

The title of the event is "Women's Rights are Human Rights"

There will also be various panel discussions on Friday April 9th in Baker 240/242 from 9:30am-5pm

Ohio Minors Now able to get Protection Orders

 House Bill 10 was signed into law by Governor Ted Strickland this month. Previously minors who were assaulted or stalked by other minors had no legal right to an order of protection in the state of Ohio.
